AI-based Diseases Detection and Precision Sprayingin Portuguese Vineyards (GrAIpe)
The GrAIpe experiment was a groundbreaking initiative aimed at transforming vineyard maintenance and disease management using AI, drone technology, and interactive iOS applications. It was designed to enhance the precision and efficiency of detecting and treating crop diseases and pests. This reduction in agrochemical use aligns with sustainable farming practices. The project developed a high-precision mapping system and a cloud-based data processing framework using AI algorithms. The system provided vineyard managers with an intuitive interface to visualize affected areas, manage spraying operations, and monitor results, thereby improving decision-making in vineyard management. This innovation was in line with the EU's Farm to Fork Strategy, promoting environmentally friendly and economically viable agricultural methods.
